Spotlight Charity

The Young Irish Fellowship Club is dedicated to promoting philanthropy within our community. Each month we will highlight a different local charity to help raise awareness and funding, and also provide volunteering options for those who wish to donate their time and talent.

SPOTLIGHT CHARITY:

Maeve McNicholas Memorial Foundation
http://www.maevesfoundation.org/

Maeve McNicholas was only 2 years old when she died of a brain tumor that went undetected until 36 hours before her death. This foundation wants to prevent other families from going through the heartbreak that Maeve’s family endured in the summer of 2004 by raising money to put towards the research of pediatric brain tumors.

Maeve simply got sick at a family party on July 27th, 2004 and only 36 hours she went to heaven at 4:37am on July 29th.  She was only 26 months old.

This disease didn’t give Maeve a fighting chance. She lost her battle before she even knew it began. We need to continue to fight this battle for her and for other children and families, so that they may never live through this nightmare. Nobody should ever have to say “good-bye” to their child. PLEASE help increase awareness and funding to learn more about pediatric brain tumors. Visit the Maeve McNicholas Memorial Foundation’s website (listed above) to read more about Maeve’s story and to learn how you can help.

Every year Maeve’s Foundation holds a fundraiser called “Play for Maeve” at Beverly Park on the south side to raise money and awareness for pediatric brain tumor research. This year the 5th annual Play for Maeve raised over $70,000!  Mark your calendar for the 6th Annual Play for Maeve which will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2010.
