Commitment
The YIFC is committed to service. The YIFC not only supports local and national charities through financial assistance (last year we raised close to $40,000) but we also lend support through volunteerism. We invite you to get involved as well. In celebrating our 35th year, the YIFC has chosen to support 4 local charities this year, so contact the YIFC Vice President of the Charitable Committee, Brian Babinski at brian.babinski@gmail.com or feel free to contact the organizations directly.
2009–2010 Charities
Maeve McNicholas Foundation
Maeve McNicholas was only 2 years old when she died of a brain tumor that was undetected until 36 hours before her death. The disease didn’t give Maeve a fighting chance. This foundation wants to prevent other families from going through the heartbreak that Maeve’s family endured in the summer of 2004 by raising money to put towards the research of pediatric brain tumors.

Matthew Lee Bailey Foundation
The MLB foundation raises money for a high school scholarship for one eighth grade student at Christ the King School to attend Mount Carmel High School. Matt Bailey was 25 years old when he died in a sudden swimming accident. This foundation has created this scholarship in Matt’s name to honor his strong ties to both Christ the King and Mount Carmel.
Michael J. Murphy Musical Scholarship Fund
Michael Murphy (Murph) life was cut short suddenly on June 6th, 2008 when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver. This scholarship fund was created by Murphy’s family and friends to provide music related lessons and instruments to children from families that do not have the financial means to provide the same opportunity that Michael Murphy had growing up.

Raising Awareness – National MS Society
Tom Berry, Brigid Berry, and Carly Fecht run this organization on behalf of their mothers (Susan Berry and Mary Fecht) who both have MS. In the U.S. alone, there are 400,000 people living with Multiple Sclerosis and its devastating effects. “Raising Awareness” has been raising money for the Greater Illinois Chapter of the National MS Society for the past 9 years. The Young Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago would like to make a significant donation toward the efforts of finding a cure for this terrible disease.
